This is exactly what I was taught to do even before I made my first communion half a century ago. It seems to me that since the changes- i.e. from 1964- we have risked becoming like a people who honour the Lord with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. I suspect this because so often, while people are very good at saying the prayers of the mass, it is preceded and followed by the din of conversation.
