Extreme or normal?

Going to Mass every Sunday
Going to Confession
Not eating meat on Fridays
Maybe going to Mass during the week....

A friend of mine once said that he didn't want to be labled a this or that Catholic he just wanted to be a normal one. Trouble is doing the above things in 2010, puts you in the extreme camp for most members of the general population and alas for some Catholics...

Since when did reading what the Pope's just said and trying to act on it make you extreme?

See, to me that IS normal. By not being some zealot who has no other interests, I try to demonstrate to my friends and peers that I am normal, despite doing all you just listed.

At a First Holy Communion Prep. meeting for parents, some years ago, one parent opined that weekly (Sunday) attendance at Mass was fundamentalist- once a month or so, was quite enough. Our jaws dropped to the floor as nobody contradicted him, not even the P.P.
We tried to raise the issue at the next meeting, but were told that we either stop 'disrupting' the meeting or leave. In the end the P.P. required us to go.
Yes, it's an upside down world, at times.
