Trompe l'oeil

I'm sorry anybody was ever expected to go to that Church featured on Damian Thompson's blog.

The Ordinariate people must number some folks a dab hand with a paint brush.
and if they are being given it, or even loaned it, gift horses, mouths etc.

Time for a clever trick with the eyes. A blank canvas. They could repaint it as their favourite Cathedral. St Pauls' before the Great Fire?

Although baroque St Paul's is, to mine eyes anyway, hideous, at least they had the good excuse that there was a Great Fire which literally gutted the old Norman cathedral. There was no great fire to pull down old St Peter's in Rome, which was one of the oldest churches in Christendom.

I know not the answer, nor indeed what the St Peter's before the present one was like.
